Ambassador Leaders Day 4

Taking the leadership grooming one step further, the IESA HarvardSummit Delegation that you may all be familiar with by now (It wasgood to have Esther Yilla on board this time who was joining us aftercompleteing her IGCSE exams), visited two extremely important organisations working in the fight against hunger globally- Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) and Action Against Hunger/Action Contre La Faim (ACF). The objective of our delegation was to be able to understand the nature of the interventions undertaken by both of these actors in Cote d'Ivoire.

Kudos to our studnet leaders, they have truly got what it takes! Action against Hunger was founded in 1979 by a group of French intellectuals in response to the emergency in Afghanistan. While the fight against hunger had previously been an element of more general humanitarian action (the fight against poverty, promoting better health, etc.) they founded an organisation that was exclusively dedicated to ending  hunger. Action against Hunger is now recognised as one of the leading organisations in the fight against hunger worldwide.

ACF is also an active player in the field of Nutrition, health, mental health and Care practices, Food security and livelihoods, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene in Cote d'Ivoire, specifically, Abidjan, Korhogo (Savannes region), Zouan Hounien & Toulepleu and Aboisso. The programs were presented to us by Mr. Janvier
Miniani, who is the Assistant Country Director at ACF and Mr. Andrea Dominici.

8.30-10.00 am: Destination Vallon, FAO Headquarters FAO is a UN agency, achieving food security for all is at the heart of FAO's efforts – to make sure people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives. Its three main goals are: the eradication of hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition; the elimination of poverty and the driving forward of economic and social progress for all; and, the sustainable management and utilization of natural resources, including land, water, air, climate and genetic resources for the benefit of present and future generations.

The delegation was warmly recieved by Mr. Luc Genot, the Operations Managers, Mrs Marina Diby, Communications Manager and Mr. Clement Diby, National Expert in charge of the Nutrition Programme. All memebers recieved caps, programme brochures and reports, fact files and T-shirts for the faculty leaders-Mr. Kwame Epraphas and Mrs.Anjolie Okoye.

10.30-3.30 pm: Back to School to write out the pending examination.
3.30pm-6pm: Destination Zone 4, ACF Headquarters.

STEM Club

The high school girls were formed into a STEM Club when they visited the STEM Centre at the US Embassy, Abidjan on Wednesday the 15th of June, 2016. They worked on construction projects, robotic assembling,

coding and information programming. Club members also received tee-shirts from the organisers at the Information Ressource Centre's Director-Mrs. Marie Laure Angoran. 4 pupils from IESA's club were also selected for the STEM Boot Camp scheduled to be held at the International University of Grand Bassam (IUGB) from 18th-21st July. The camp will be fully funded by the US Embassy. The pupils selected are Mary Orji Okpara (Grade 11), Amy Toure (Grade 9), Daniella Adigun (Grade 8) and Noellie Kouedan (Grade 7). Of interest would be to know that the STEM Centre is an initiative of the US Embassy's Information Resource Centre(IRC) to encourage girls to foray into the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Also present was

Mrs. Deborah Rouamba (IRC) who we all know from the various Storytelling Sessions attended by the pupils from the Primary and Parole Aux Ados Conference hosted by the High School pupils throughout the academic year. From IESA, the pupils were accompanied by Mrs. Oluwateye Olatunji (Director of Academic Affairs), Mr. Ayo Ademoye (ICT Teacher, High School) and later joined by Mrs. Anjolie Sancia Okoye (International Programs Coordinator).
